Re: Gossip: Where is the line?
However, due especially to being a mandated reporter, if I heard third hand that a child was being abused, I would report it. How often do you think "mandatory reporting" is abused or misused? What would abuse or misuse of mandatory reporting look like? I am not sure I understand the ques...

Re: Gossip: Where is the line?
Now, to be clear, that's if I actually know the person. If I hear of a crime committed and I dont know the person, I am not in favor of gossip or even trying to talk to the person. Nope. Report and the law can do its work. If I see a burglar breaking in next door I dont inquire about church affilia...

Re: Poll: Perceptions about CAM
I am haunted by JM withholding food that donors paid for as a bargaining tactic for what he called "consensual" with children. Confidence that my money is not funding more of those situations has been eroded after learning how CAM has dealt with it. Now that's an interesting twist. No, th...

Re: Poll: Perceptions about CAM
CAM has welcomed their supporters to call them and ask their questions. I've done that and would encourage you to do that also. One person who used to post regularly on MD did that and was pleasantly surprised at what they learned. Just a caution that if a person makes a phone call (with their mind...

Re: Work Ethic Inequality
And there is no way that people trapped in poverty can give generously. Sorry for pulling this quote out of a much longer context, but this stood out to me and I wanted to address it. My experience has been that people in poverty actually can be incredibly generous. They dont have great amounts to ...

Re: Work Ethic Inequality
Well that explains a lot. I can say from experience that refundable tax credits make a huge difference in your effective tax rates, to say the least, and are actually more like a government subsidy than an actual tax refund. They ARE a government subsidy. At least (in the US) the Child Tax credit a...

Re: Did Obama verbally abuse people like Trump does?
It is important for folks to be alert and vigilant to present widespread redefinition of our English language. It’s happening online, like wiki, but also in dictionaries, textbooks - i believe i read someone’s suggestion to be cautious about anything published, 1980’s-forward. Living languages chan...

Re: My Teen Daughter Is Rebelling by Going to Quaker Meetings
After reading about William Penn in history today, the first thought I had was, "history does repeat itself!"
