Re: Photography Sinful ?
My understanding of a “graven image” is a representation of a god which is worshipped. That's nice that that's your understanding. A lot of plain Anabaptists prefer to stick to simple readings of the text. The danger of simple readings is we can be simply wrong. I believe there are many 'conviction...

Re: Photography Sinful ?
We just interpret the text simply when it says “make no graven images”. Exceptions abound for “business use”, which I personally find questionable. Ultimately, plain groups used to be strong in their convictions against the camera and the photograph - nowadays it is simply most Amish and some other...

Re: Photography Sinful ?
I just have not run across anyone who worships a photo. I don't know other's hearts but what appears to me sometimes is one can cross that line into worship when we put anything ahead of God in our displays of worship. It is common in the Catholic Church. Not photos, but pictures. https://angelusne...

Re: Photography Sinful ?
Sudsy, Can you identify any person who believes they are worshiping the statue? The image be it a picture or an icon? Can you find anyone who admits they worship something man made? What people admit to and what is actually going on in their hearts, where God looks, can be quite different. I believ...

Photography Sinful ?
It was only a few years ago that I became aware of some Anabaptists (and I'm not aware of any Christians who believe this outside of Anabaptism but perhaps there are) that resist taking photographs as a violation of one of the 10 commandments. So, I had to look closely at this text in Exodus 20:3-6....

Re: Questions for Anabaptists: Plain or Old Order
A question I have been asked and I don't know the answer that a Plain or Old Order would give -
Why do those who wear long dresses, head coverings and other non-modern styles of dress in daily wear, also wear the most modern, often quite colourful running shoes ?

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
My hat is off to all those who are attempting to do this in a humble way. But it so rare that people get integrated, that I have decided to give at least a portion of the remainder of my life to helping those who probably won't ever make it, and simply help them tweak their culture in a way that is...

Re: Questions for Anabaptists: Plain or Old Order
All forms of photography (things like a document scanner scanning documents is not in scope, nor things like taking photos of items on a shelf for a business). When required for eg government ID Holdemans will allow someone else to take a photo. Some Amish groups hold a similar stance. The Beachys ...
