Re: Proselytization
The Pharisees were supposed to be keeping the law. The reason Jesus criticised them is because they weren't obeying/keeping the law, not because Jesus was against the law. "Think not that I came to abolish the law." As the NLT puts it -"Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not ...

Re: Proselytization
1. How can this tendency to proselytize and make a zealot out of someone be distinguished from genuine evangelistic and outreach efforts, which are clearly a part of our task as Christians? Seems to me the problem with Pharisee evangelism was they were promoting a religion that had lots of rules and...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
That should be a thread all in its own! 8-) Sorry, got carried away. Regarding this topic I do think we need to check out with God and other Christians, who we believe would give good Christian advice on any efforts of street ministry. But when we do proceed, I believe, we also should do what we do...

Re: Do you agree with this statement? Part 3
My turn
Love needs action - yes, even if it is restraint
Trust needs proof - no, I can chose to trust without proof
Sorry needs change - no, in the sense that I can feel regret but then make the same mistake again

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
Anyway I'm just rambling on but would love to hear more thoughts from others on this. Do you know personally of an unchurched person who became a Christian and quickly experienced radical changes in their lives ? That should be a thread all in its own! 8-) Sorry, got carried away. Regarding this to...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
I've hit a point where I don't think enabling an addiction is doing good at all. That's why I like working with places that have rather strict rules, so I know the help will actually be helping. The places and programs that I try to get people to go to are actually quite strict, and have rules, whi...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
This reminds me of the 'Good Samaritan' story and his efforts to help the man. This all goes back to the questions who is our neighbour and what must one do to obtain eternal life. The priest and the Levite, religious people, just passed by the needy person by going to the other side of the street. ...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
That should not surprise you. If the people in question had the discipline, habit, and socialization to show up for something like a Sunday church service without being compelled, then they would also have the discipline, habit, and socialization to show up for job interviews, work, housing intervi...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
I see zero problems with vagrancy laws and prison work camps for repeat offenders. The simple fact is, nobody HAS to use illegal street drugs, commit acts of violence, or yell at passersby. Work also provides dignity and in a compulsory setting, would steer such people into more healthy life habits...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
I am just getting involved again and attending the Salvation Army and one of their leaders mentioned to me yesterday that none, yes zero, of the people that come for help on a weekly basis, and there are many, show up for the church services on Sunday. This is interesting and I want to explore this...
