Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
Quite an interesting read, this thread. Now for a little shot at 'conservative Christians'. The 'holier-than-thou' group. ;) It often sounds to me like the most godly, most spiritual, most holy 'culture' in how to follow Jesus is the one today labelled in Anabaptism as 'Conservative'. This sounds qu...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills
This might be controversial, but I would draw a line between doctrines, not based on how important they are, but by how certain I think we can be of them from scripture. There are some things that seem very clear and straightforward, others seem to be open to some interpretation. Zwingli's stance a...

Re: Works of the flesh observations
Dissensions - implies strife or discord and stresses a division into factions. Sounds to me like what has happened to many Anabaptists. Perhaps the most fragmented group in church history. The city and vicinity where I live in southern Ontario has many Mennonite groups that at some point in time ap...

Re: Works of the flesh observations
This letter was to a church, so these characteristics are ones that represent behaviours that can show up in a church when they are living according to the flesh and not according to the Spirit.

Works of the flesh observations
In Gal 5:19-21 NKJV Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell ...

Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology
I believe it is a good thing our salvation and our rewards won't be judged someday on what other Christians believe is sinning and what is not sinning based on their interpretations of scripture. Jesus sure put the Pharisees straight with their high opinion of themselves and their religious ways. Th...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
I also don’t see it working to try to compose a church / school of people with wildly varying practices. It seems such a congregation lacks unity at a fundamental level. I don't know what you mean by wildly varying, but as I said earlier, there needs to be parameters of course. I'd rather be in a c...

Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology
This all brings me back to what is the essential belief(s) that keeps one from ending up in hell ? What is one going to believe that will get them to heaven ? Isn't that what really matters when all is said and done ? Your final question is the most important, and the answer is "no". Jesu...

Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology
Menno even excommunicated the Swiss Brethren for not accepting his strict views on excommunication. MattY, I just want to say that thus sentence made me laugh out loud. Luther also "excommunicated" Zwingli and the reformed church in Geneva because they couldn't agree on the metaphysics at...
