Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?

That should not surprise you. If the people in question had the discipline, habit, and socialization to show up for something like a Sunday church service without being compelled, then they would also have the discipline, habit, and socialization to show up for job interviews, work, housing intervi...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?

I see zero problems with vagrancy laws and prison work camps for repeat offenders. The simple fact is, nobody HAS to use illegal street drugs, commit acts of violence, or yell at passersby. Work also provides dignity and in a compulsory setting, would steer such people into more healthy life habits...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?

I am just getting involved again and attending the Salvation Army and one of their leaders mentioned to me yesterday that none, yes zero, of the people that come for help on a weekly basis, and there are many, show up for the church services on Sunday. This is interesting and I want to explore this...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?

Here is my dilemma: I found a mission that goes out into the streets and helps these people with food and housing, counseling, etc. The kicker is, they supply these poor folks with clean needles and crack pipes to help stop the spread HIV and such. To that end, they also distribute Narcan to people...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

Was Charles Mackay a Christian ? I don't see him as a good source for guidance, imo. I have no idea if he was a Christian. I provided the quote because I thought it had a valid point, not because I think Mackay is a moral authority of some kind. One does not need to agree with another to show them ...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

I'm not in charge of consigning anyone to hell, and that simply isn't a question I ask myself. I cannot imagine what it would be like to try to live the Christian life with my primary question being whether any particular action would doom me to hell. The approach Jesus taught was to always do thos...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

So are you suggesting that a Christian who protects themself and perhaps their family and does not intend to kill an attacker but it happens is going to hell ? I'm not in charge of consigning anyone to hell, and that simply isn't a question I ask myself. I cannot imagine what it would be like to tr...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

Regarding who is my neighbour, I understand Jesus to say they are those who are in our vicinity of life that we run across often. Those I believe we should turn the other cheek when they persecute us. But at the point of them killing me, which I have not experienced just only by their words, I susp...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

How ridiculous is it that Christians on two sides can come together and exchange presents on Christmas… and then go right back to shooting each other. That Christians from the same family can shoot each other in a Civil War… The answer is obvious. And the obvious answer is ? Christians most certain...
