Re: The Great Dechurching

Well, on my second read I'm sticking with my experiences in churches that believers wanted to attend throughout the week to learn and be involved in the excitement and blessings of seeing the unchurched becoming Christians and beginning their new walk with the Lord. It isn't hard to get Christians i...

Re: The Great Dechurching

Interesting take on why fewer and fewer Americans go to church. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/07/christian-church-communitiy-participation-drop/674843/ Nearly everyone I grew up with in my childhood church in Lincoln, Nebraska, is no longer Christian. That’s not unusual. Forty mill...

Re: The Great Dechurching

I think many have quit going to church because there isn't any or much of the supernatural evident in these churches or those that are calling certain activities supernatural works of God, these occurrences are very suspect and in many cases, I believe, are fraudulent. Doesn't seem like the term 'bo...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

My thought has often been that the way most of us born again Christians live is that most of us do believe in universalism or we don't believe in endless torment for the unsaved in hell like most say they do. How can any Christian say they care about the eternal destiny of the unsaved in endless tor...

Re: Christians in the 2024 Election

We're obviously entering into an election season. How should we approach that as Christians? What is the best way to be the Kingdom of God between now and the election? Request: Please don't talk about which candidates you prefer in this thread, or what bothers you about people who disagree with yo...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

It seems to me that the *description* of early church baptisms in the book of Acts - both Jew and Gentile - is that they were baptized immediately upon confession of faith. But there is no *prescription* for either immediate baptism or a time of preparation/instruction prior to baptism, which, acco...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

I believe in a more NT way :) . There is no need for baptismal classes or formal church membership. Both are add-ons to the NT pattern. There is a church nearby where I live that immerses the same day or asap as possible after repentance. Show me anywhere in the NT where there was any testing perio...

Re: Story Time!

Yes. Paul said chess. I think Paul was extremely good at chess, so maybe his threshold of “play well” was an understatement, and was quite high indeed. But maybe not as high as a 69, -2 with one arm. I wish I could say I gave as much time to sharing the Gospel with the not yet believers although at...

Re: Story Time!

I'm impressed. I golfed some back in TX when I had good friends who did it. Since moving back to the PNW I haven't picked up my clubs except to go to the local driving range a few times when I fired moved back and still had the itch. In all the golfing I've ever done, which isn't a huge amount, I d...
