The Old Order people use the Luther German Bible because it is one of the better German versions (or because they have traditionally used it.)In any case it is beyond me how any Anabaptist church can use Luther Bibles given the fact how Luther treated the Anabaptists. Same for Zwingli Bibles.

Re: Amish Shooting Death
Wow that’s a broad accusation. I could give lots of examples of where that’s not the case... It’s like saying most Americans eat whole wheat bread. Sure, there are lots of examples where it’s not the case. Generally speaking, we have a problem. How often have you observed a young child operating an...

Re: Marriages - Then & Now?
A question--why are church weddings frowned upon? A I missing something? :? If we start using the church for weddings, next we will have the father of the bride walking the bride down the aisle along with all other church wedding rituals including flowers, etc. Or at least so the logic goes. This i...

Re: "The Least Of These My Brethren"
When can we truly say "we have done our share"? I'm not sure we can begin to address that question until we've decided where to add or refrain from adding commas to the unpunctuated Greek. Let's say I will accept the unpunctuated Greek even though it has felt otherwise to me, in the past....

Re: Compass Foundation Tech products
The Markham Waterloo Mennonite Conference and the Conservative Mennonite Church of Ontario both use Compass Foundation as a filtering service. I know that it protects me from accessing undesirable sites even though MWMC apparently use the most liberal setting available. I don't know if it keeps law ...

"Speaking from my experience as an Anabaptist." I can only speak from that perspective - that is all that it means.

Amish Shooting Death
BERNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — The Amish community near Berne is mourning, after an 11-year-old boy was shot and killed by one of his siblings. “This was 100% preventable,” Sgt. Troy Habegger from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department says. He admits the shooting is a tough one. “I do have a daughter, so i...

Re: "The Least Of These My Brethren"
I would read it as "the least of these, my brethern" and could take that to be any person anywhere that I can reasonably help. The question always is, how far can we go with this. We had flooding in our community; there are certain vulnerable people who have been out of their homes for 6 m...

Re: The Apocrypha
I'm writing from memory here, so do not have ready references, but as I recall, the Jews VALUED these inter-testamental books, but did not include them as a part of their Scripture. This would be the reason these works were not included in the LXX. (It is my understanding that the Jewish attitude o...

Re: The Apocrypha
At the end of the day (and here at the end of my earthly sojourn), there is a choice that I see: spend hours upon days upon years dissecting and parsing etymological meanings, sourcing chapters, etc; or I have found I can spend my hours/days/years working to put Biblical teachings into a living pra...
